Leaks surrounding Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 flagship processors have surfaced ahead of their expected October launches. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, set to debut at the 2024 Snapdragon Summit, will feature custom “Phoenix” cores, with the CPU clocked up to 4.32 GHz. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4's GeekBench 6 results show an impressive single-core score of 3236 and a multi-core score exceeding 10,000.
In comparison, Apple’s A18 chip, powering the iPhone 16/Plus, achieved a single-core score of 3114 and a multi-core score of 6666, placing Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 ahead in both categories. Even the more powerful A18 Pro chip, found in the iPhone 16 Pro/Max, scores slightly lower in multi-core performance, with a single-core score of 3409 and a multi-core score of 8492.
Meanwhile, the Dimensity 9400 is expected to debut in the vivo X200 series and OPPO Find X8/Pro, featuring a 3.63 GHz Cortex-X925 core and the Mali-G925-Immortalis MC12 GPU. Leaks suggest the GPU outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by 30%, with support for mobile ray tracing technology. Both chips promise to bring significant performance boosts for flagship smartphones in late 2024.
